The plan for the rest of the day was to try to ride Big Meadow, and if that was covered with snow, then head to Powerline and ride. It took us awhile to pack up, mountain biking is just like that. Lots of checking and rechecking to make sure you have everything neccessary. So it was later than I wanted to when we finally hit the road. And when we finally got to Big Meadow trailhead, it was closed. Bummer. We headed a bit further up the road to try out the Tahoe Rim Trail. We ride a little ways up, and too much snow, so we have to turn back. Bummer. We go to Mr. Toads trail and push up through snow, maybe a quarter mile before we have to turn back. Bummer. Then, I get a flat. Sighhh... Everytime I got settled into ride, we were interrupted. The guide books were serious when they said each trail has a season, and most of the trails are unridable until June. I guess that's what you get for trying to mountain bike in Tahoe in May. We fixed the flat, but in the process, my front brake got messed up. So now I only had my back brake, and a very weak front brake. Not a good idea to try and ride without both brakes working, so the only thing left to do was head back to the hotel.
What a frustrated day! When we got back to the hotel, I still had a ride in me, and I wanted to do something besides go sit in the hotel room and read People magazine. So we took the bikes out and rode back to Kahle Park where I started out this morning. We followed the trails through the park and ended up by the lake. That was a nice surprise. We hung out by the water for awhile, then rode back through town to the hotel. I felt better. I had finally got to finish a ride.
