So being of a hiking frame of mind, a couple of friends and I headed over to the Uvas County Park in Morgan Hill to check out the waterfalls. The hiking was not strenous; the waterfall loop was more of a slight uphill amble, and the waterfalls were beautiful and plentiful thanks to the recent rains.
This wee bit of water wetting the rocks is a natural spring.
There were a lot of people out; families with kids, some dogs, hikers with huge cameras and tripods(!), and the trail was wide enough for strollers, so it felt a little like a Disneyland attraction "now here on this side we have waterall number 5", but the weather was lovely, and the company was great, and I had a good time.

I'm declaring January National Brighten Up month. I saw these dahlias at Safeway and I couldn't resist. Bright and cheery, just what I wanted to banish the January grey. The winter seems to be longer this year. I hope it's not because I'm getting old and that's what old people do; sit around and complain about the long winter. Anyway, what a fabulous color of red. And as a side note, yes I DO like flowers, but I do NOT like carnations-any kind of carnations, no matter what color they have dyed them. And I'm not fond of roses, especially when they are wrapped up in the prerequisite store bought bouquet of a dozen, with no smell or personality. I like roses off the vine, big and heavy, and smelling like a rose should.
And just because I know you all are curious...
The sock has progressed.
Soon, there will be no more naked feet at our house.

And yet, another dilemma. A cloudy, cold, grey day. Do I curl up on the couch with the pink sock, toes wrapped around the space heater and knit the afternoon away. Or do I get on my bike and ride before the rain comes again?

old people sit by the heater and knit. and they go for strolls.
Eh, speak up sonny, I can barely hear you.
I've been feeling this very strange urge to knit a sweater. This happens most every winter and I get over it, but this year the urge is really, really strong. Too bad I'm in Paris; my needles are in San Francisco.
$12 for a bright pink sock (one bright pink sock) does seem excessive, though I'm sure, framed, it will look very nice.
