We took a little detour to Pacifica on our way to South San Francisco, but eventually we made it to Golden Gate Park. I have to admit I'm still a tourist when it comes to San Francisco. The few times I've been to the city, it's usually to hang out at the wharf and see the Sea Lions, with a quick trip to Ghiradelli. I didn't even know San Fransisco had such a beautiful park.
It was a sunny warm day, and we headed out on our bikes to find Sarah. It reminded me a little of the "Where's Waldo" books, trying to find a runner in a huge city. But we started by following the course backwards figuring eventually we would catch up to her.
The first water station we came across, the coach warned us about following the markers backwards, "the course" she said "was all uphill from there." Better to stay there and wait for our friend then to risk the huge uphill.
We decided to risk it. We never really did find a big hill, so I'm not sure why she was worried about us. Maybe we looked woefully out of shape compared to all the marathon runners. Anyway, it was a lovely ride through the park and we caught up with our friend only a mile and half out.
We cheered and took some pictures, then followed along for a bit. Then we took a small detour around the de young museum parking lot, and by the time we caught up with our friend again, she had decided to call an early end to her run because her legs were hurting.
After getting her sorted out, we had lunch at the Beach Chalet; we were very hungry after our strenous 4 mile ride-must have been the uphill?
A very nice day to be out on the bike.
