I'm a camping girl

"I find that in contemplating the natural world my pleasure is greater if there are not too many others contemplating it with me, at the same time."
Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire

I think that neatly sums up our camping trip at Big Basin with the horde of wild children running freely through the campsite 24/7.

First day of vacation, camping at Big Basin. The drive up the long winding road seemed to take forever. We got there around 5, then spent awhile scouting out the perfect campsite. We thought we found a spot far enough away from the camp with 7 children, but unfortunatley not. It was kind of a loud two days.

Our campsite.

Here's camp. I'd never make it on Survivor; I brought two pillows, several blankets, a camp pad, a sleeping bag and other "essentials". Luckily the campsite was not too far away from the car.

Ten points if you can spot Brian in the picture. Sort of like "Where's Waldo".

After we finished setting up camp, it was getting dark so we hung out for awhile playing Scrabble and eating Cheezits and grapes.

Camping seems to be mostly snacking on junk food and hanging out by the fire.

I'm modeling my sexy new headlamp. It's the very latest in "dork wear", but it was so handy. Much better than using a flashlight when you're trying to move around camp.

I lost the Scrabble game.

I found a boyscout recipe called pig on a stick. You wrap a uncooked breadstick around a hotdog, then cook them in the coals. The bread is suppose to cook up around the hotdog. Cool huh?

Here I am cooking my "pig on a stick".

Here's Brian making me a new hotdog. Stupid boyscout recipe.

The second day we did some biking and a little bit of walking around.

I love the redwoods.

Brian showing off his Top Chef skills by cooking pizza rolls over the campstove.

Camping was a lot of fun. I can't wait to go again!

Not first camping trip ever, but one of the few. I really enjoyed myself except for the very loud children. I think I would have liked the pigs in the blanket too if it had worked. I just can't cook! :P

How come you're not used to very loud children? You work in a Library don't you? That's the best place to find loud children!
