No race, no excuses

I had planned on racing the 4th CCCX down at Toro Park Saturday morning, but Friday night I was so dead tired, I couldn't imagine packing up and leaving so early the next day. So I slept in instead, went for a run then headed down that afternoon to check out the downhill course.

Downhill racing is the most "testostoreny" sport ever. Men and boys in full gear, pushing huge bikes around, talking smack to each other. Then there's me, trying very hard not to get in anyones way. I was really nervous about riding the downhill at Toro Park. Last year the downhill trail was difficult for me; there were water bars, and a couple of drops, and maybe a switchback or two? I shouldn't have worried so much. This course was nothing. Figured out later that the downhill trail was actually part of the cross country course, so it was smooth, and not technical at all. It was a lot of fun to ride down.

The hardest part of the course was getting to the top. Climb, climb, climb. I was so glad I had my Nomad and wasn't pushing some huge downhill bike.

Extreme spectating.

Not my usual bike gear.

Me on my bike, just chilling and watching the race.

I was disappointed in myself for not doing either race this weekend. Lesson learned: Showing up is half the battle.

You showed up and rode your bike. That's more than half.
