The Best Things About Vacations

Early morning.
Sitting on the patio in companionable silence
balancing cat and tea mug while
passing sections of the paper back and forth,
catching up on the world between working the crossword and sips of tea.
...a seven letter word for "settled".

Eventually out comes the map,
with dirt trails unexplored
just waiting for me and my bike;
so many endless possibilities
for a ride.

With destination finally decided,
the day slowly begins to take shape in loops and miles,
and calls for some kind of action.

But first

There is time for one more cup of tea,
and the cat,
on the patio,
in the early morning.
