My husband forgot to tell me my bike has been ready to pick up since Saturday.
I rode at the bmx track yesterday. There were a group of young boys there when I arrived, on their bikes, circled around each other by the picnic tables. They watched me get out my bike, and they watched me put on my helmet, and they watched me while I put on my knee pads. And I could hear them across the parking lot whispering "cool bike...I don't know...maybe? You ask her..." So I rode up the little hill to the bmx track and looked back, and sure enough they were heading my direction en mass. The littlest one races up the hill followed by the others and asks me breathlessly "Are you a pro?!" I never laughed so hard in my life. I was tempted to introduce myself as Marla Streb. But I told him no, I was very much a beginner, and in fact he was probably better at this stuff then I was . He didn't seem too disappointed though. "That's a nice bike!" he said. Thank goodness I was on my Juliana and not the Nomad. I would never have been able to live up to it's rep. So I said 'thank you" and he waits a beat and asks "Is it yours?"
It's a good thing I stayed humble, those little anklebiters can ride.
I rode at Fremont Older yesterday morning and was reminded all over again why I need to ride more on the trails and not the street. Hills. Must climb more hills.
I rode a whole 20 minutes at Arastradero with the rockclimbing girl last night. She told me she wanted to ride down the steep hill at Fremont Older. So I told her go ahead. Hey, who am I to keep anyone from their goals? Then she told me she wanted to ride at Santa Teresa. And she wanted to do a triathlon. And she wanted to do muddy buddy. Then she wanted to know how I got to the fitness level I'm at now. Seriously? LESS talking, MORE riding! Geesh.
My juliana is not as bouncy as my nomad, but I still love her.
I like wearing my kneepads 'cause they make me feel like I can jump over anything! I wish that was true.

Seeing as you are taking beginners, when are you gonna take Joey to the "bunny slopes?"
Whenever he wants! It'll be fun! :)
Monday maybe?
That's so funny about the group of boys...I'm sure you'll be able to outride them in no time ;).
