attention Kmart shoppers

I went shopping at Kohl's yesterday and while browsing through the jeans and sweaters, I heard "Woohoo! Way to go checkout 9, woohoo!" over the loudspeaker.

I don't really pay attention to overhead announcements , the standard "attention holiday shoppers...blah, blah, blah..." But this was something new; every so often the loudspeaker would crackle and "Nice job checkout 3! Keep up the good work!" would blare out. So odd. I had to admit I was curious. Who wouldn't be? What were these super checkers doing? Getting the customers through faster? Pushing more store credit cards? Offering to supersize their jean selection?

This was not the first time though. Shopping at the Whole Foods Market last week, minding my business in the produce aisle, I hear "We've exceeded our daily store limit (whatever the hell that means), keep up the good work team!" A little later, waiting in the checkout line "You guys are doing a GREAT job!"

I thought the over-the-intercom cheering was a little misplaced. What about me? The shopper? How about a little love my way? "Woohoo, shopper number 4! Excellent sweater selection!" or "Hey, shopper with the soymilk, thanks for buying! Keep on spending, you're doing a great job!"

I suppose whatever motivates the poor employee. I know how tedious customer sevice can be. I just hope the library doesn't pick up on this new trend. "Hey good job, finding that book! Way to rock the readers advisory!"

From the Mercury News re: tree lighting ceremony

"Arnold Schwarzenegger, who officiates at the ceremony with wife Maria Shriver, took the bold step of calling it a Christmas tree, ending the use of the term "holiday tree".
Thank you, Arnold! And Merry Christmas to you too!

Went to see Mythbusters last night at Flint Center. Mythbusters is a tv show on discovery where they take myths and try to "bust" them using scientific fact. The two hosts were at Flint Center answering questions and showing unseen footage; the best part of the evening was busting the myth that pretty girls don't fart.

Brian and I went riding at Carlmont last weekend. Lots of downhill practice! This is my Mountain Bike Magazine action pose:

Check the vans, so cool!

Lots of days off for Thanksgiving. Hopefully I'm going to be doing a lot of riding!
